Let the grass and ground decide
RHS guidance says to avoid mowing when the lawn is very wet or frozen, and to adjust the schedule to growth. During hot, dry spells, raise the cutting height or pause mowing rather than stressing the grass. Remove no more than about one-third of the grass height in a cut.
Flower-rich lawns need a different rhythm from a closely kept lawn. Check the current RHS advice for the grass and wildflowers in your garden.
